Henry Olsson, born in 1932, is a national of Sweden and Bachelor of Law at the University of Lund (in Southern Sweden) and Doctor of Law honoris causa at the University of Stockholm. He served as Junior Judge at various District Courts in Sweden and was then appointed Judge at the Court of Appeal in Stockholm. Most of the time he was, however, on leave from those posts to serve as Legal Adviser in the Ministry of Transport and Communications and in the Ministry of Justice. In 1987 he was appointed President of Chamber of the Court of Appeals in Stockholm. While on leave from that post he was from 1986 to 1992 Director of the Copyright and Public Information Department of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva and from 1992 and until the end of 2002 Special Government Adviser at the Swedish Ministry for Justice. He still works for the Ministry on special projects.
Mr. Olsson has - except in the years 1986 to 1992 - represented Sweden in international and intergovernmental meetings on copyright and trademark matters. He also dealt with Sweden's implementation of the World Trade Organization's so-called TRIPS Agreement on intellectual property matters. He participates in the copyright development cooperation program, which the Swedish Government conducts together with WIPO.
